About the Author Barbara Townsend.
Barbara used to live in Burbage Wiltshire, just south of the Savernake forest. This ancient woodland inspired her to write her first book 'The Savernake Big Belly Oak' and its sequel 'The Oaks of Savernake and the Legendary Ghosts'.
With the success of her two debut books and the cry for another, 'Harriet' has been created. This is a story of a strong female bee who will eventually be queen. For 7 to 11 year olds. Launched Christmas 2014.
"Harriet dares to be different. The unseen force that drives her and the colony disappears, leaving the bees confused and vulnerable. Their lives devastated by a deadly attack, this brave honey bee leads a group to safety and journeys to find a new home and her destiny".
Living in an oak tree of course!
Now 'Old Harry Rock and Tales of the Jurassic Coast' (7 to 11 years) has arrived. Such fun researching this book with lots of help from Swanage Primary School, RNLI, Dorchester Dinosaur Museum and Ian Weston at the Look Out Station, Peveril Point. Thank you to all of you for your kind help and support
Old Harry Rock stands sentinel, as though protecting the Jurassic Coast against the onslaught of the sea. The surrounding chalk, like a sponge, soaks up visions, myths, legends and stories, storing them as memories, like long lost fossils waiting to be dug up and discovered. Immeasurable amounts of images and sounds create an energy force waiting to be released. Old Harry has powers and is capable of tapping into this vast energy resource.
Stonehenge - Luke and the Bluestone published Dec 2016. Exciting times. English Heritage have taken it!! It is now in their gift shop. Such an accolade to have a book at one of the worlds most iconic monuments.
Avebury - Luke and the Flint Knapper’s Son, National Trust have taken this one and the Stonehenge book. Fab times.
Book 7 now here 'Wiltshire White Horses - Luke and the Uffington Dragon'. The National Trust has taken this one too. One very happy lady.
For the last 11 years Barbara has enjoyed walking in the countryside close to her village, which has been designated 'an area of outstanding natural beauty'.
"It gives me the time to stroll and mull over ideas or just to clear my head. I can't think of a better place to do it."
With adult children and six grandchildren, along with many interests, Barbara is a very busy lady.
Barbara believes that anyone can write a book no matter how old they are!
"It all started as I drove through the Savernake Forest on a snowy winter's day in 2011. The Big Belly Oak appeared in my rear view mirror, with snow covering his branches and his gaping mouth dark against the snow, he appeared to be looking at me.
That snowy day, I could not stop thinking about the tree and knew I had to write my thoughts down. Well the rest, as they say, is history."
